GUEST ARTIST FEATURE: Marika Rahtu

Hello Everyone! It’s Marika Rahtu and I’m over the moon excited to be a guest here over at Wplus9. Ever since I started crafting, I’ve been a huge fan of Dawn’s designs, illustrations and colouring - to be honest she has been one the biggest inspiration for me to start colouring. I used to watch her watercoloring tutorials over and over again and dreamt to be able to paint the way she does.

Today I’m sharing card that I made with the Beautiful Bouquet: Ranunculus set and one of my all time favourite stamp sets: Flora and Fauna 2. I remember how I drooled over this beautiful set and I had to wait for a long time to get it since it was so popular and always sold out. At the end, I was able to get it and every time I’ve made a card with it, I’ve loved the result! You just can’t go wrong with this set. There are so many different ways to use this: you can relax while colouring these beautiful images or you can use the outline only with dark inks and have fun with the background.

I used my favorite technique and colouring medium today - no-line colouring with copic markers and coloured pencils. I love the technique! I just love to see how the image starts to get in focus while adding the details with pencils. I made this into a video tutorial and a speed colouring video. Colouring takes time so I split it into two parts for your convenience. Hopefully you like them and find them helpful.

In the video below I demonstrate how to add dimension and depth using colored pencils to the hummingbird and assemble the card. The base layer of Copic Marker coloring is already laid down.

The following video shows the full process of coloring the bouquet from Copic Marker to colored pencil in fast motion.

Thank you so much Dawn and Wplus9 for asking me to a guest at your channel. It’s really been a true pleasure and a dream come true. Thank you so much!

Hello! Dawn here and I just had to pop in here to say WOW! A HUGE thanks to Marika for sharing her wonderful talent here and for the kind words as well. I find it incredibly hard to believe there was ever a time that she "dreamt to be able to paint like me". Because as far as I'm concerned, I have a ton to learn from her!
